Introducing Bagelry: A Hidden Gem for Bagel Lovers in San Francisco

Nestled on Polk Street in San Francisco, Bagelry is a beloved bagel shop that has quickly become a go-to spot for both locals and visitors alike. With a focus on quality and tradition, this small, family-run establishment is known for its homemade bagels that reflect the classic New York style - shiny on the outside and chewy on the inside.

Why Bagelry Stands Out

  • Authentic Flavor: Bagelry has garnered praise for its delicious offerings, particularly the everything bagel with lox. As one satisfied customer remarked, it’s the best bagel in the city.
  • Breakfast Sandwiches: From a perfectly fried egg to crispy bacon, their breakfast sandwiches—especially the BEC (bacon, egg, and cheese)—are standout items that keep patrons coming back for more.
  • Affordability: Many reviewers have noted the low prices that make Bagelry an excellent choice for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. The value provided is often highlighted as a major draw.
  • Takeout Convenience: Though the shop is strictly takeout only, customers appreciate being able to grab their breakfast and head to a nearby park for a picturesque meal with a view.

The Experience

While some reviewers have mentioned occasional delays during busy weekends, most agree that the wait is worth it. With a track record of only one mistake across fifty visits, Bagelry has proven to maintain a commendable level of service amidst the hustle and bustle.

Despite its humble interior, which some have humorously likened to a throwback to the 1990s, Bagelry focuses on what truly matters: the food. Meghan H. emphasizes the excellent quality of their bagels, stating that they are well-done and delicious—making it a perfect stop for those in a rush yet craving something fulfilling.

Final Thoughts

In the words of Kelly L., if you’re searching for a delicious and affordable breakfast, Bagelry is your spot. With an array of bagels and sandwiches that cater to diverse tastes—plus the charm of being a family-operated business—it’s no wonder this establishment has cultivated a loyal following. As they undergo remodeling, patrons eagerly await the reopening, excited to enjoy their favorite bagels once more.

The bagels here are the best in the city. Come here almost every week. Super delicious. I usually go with an everything bagel lox sandwich. They don't always have it during the week days but seem to always on the weekends. Service can be slow at times if they're busy on the weekend but it's well worth the wait. After +50 visits they have made one mistake with my bagel. Acceptable track record in my books. Writing this review because I'm craving their bagels and can't currently enjoy them because they're closed for remodeling. I'm excited to see what it looks like when they reopen. It's a take out only joint currently.

I'm over my Yelp era but I couldn't help but leave a review because I'm shocked to see such a low rating here. This is the best BEC in the city. I'm a transplant from the east coast and finding a good breakfast sandwich here has been a feat. They have a perfectly fried egg with crispy edges, crispy bacon, and very decent bagels. The only place even somewhat comparable is Schlock's but they don't have the basics and no bacon. Oh and they're like double the price. Bagelry is the spot if you want a delicious and cheap breakfast sammy. And to the dude (and others) crying about the interior... this obviously isn't the place for you. Plenty of places with ambiance and mediocre overpriced breakfast foods. This ain't it, boo.

The Bagelry is a small to-go order establishment located on Polk St. I picked up breakfast there with my friend and walked to a nearby park to enjoy our bagel sandwiches with a view. The bagels were well done and delicious. I recommend this as an on-the-go breakfast stop for anyone looking for breakfast on the cheaper side!

Best bagels in tradition of NY-style bagels (in addition to House of Bagels and the now-shuttered Katz's). They have the requisite shiny exterior and chewy interior. They are affordable! My two complaints - they used to carry pumpernickel but discontinued. They are also slow as molasses. I've tried calling ahead but they have only one line at the register so you could still wait 20-30 minutes even though your bagel is ready. They need a bit of an operations makeover but it's very much a family-run business.

This bagel shop has a giant sesame bagel above the entrance. 5 stars for commitment. The walls were layered with grease/water and they kept their lights on dim. The prices were low, low, low. In a way this bagelry is time machine to the 1990's when the health department was nonexistent and people managed not to die. I had two bagels and it was really nice not feeling robbed at the register. I'll go back whenever I can.

I'm surprised this place doesn't have higher ratings, we were very happy with this choice!! The bagels were fresh, the spreads were creamy and just the right amount. They didn't skimp on the bacon in the breakfast sandwiches either. We will most definitely be coming back here!

Love me a veggie bagel! The Bagelry is a solid option if you're in the Polk gulch area, and extra stars for it being family owned. Super sweet staff. The way they charge for one slice of lettuce and each kind of veggie is interesting, but otherwise always a delicious bagel.

A warm everything bagel with a slice of cheese on EACH bagel half, 6 slices of ham, and a crispy edge on the fried egg- now this is detail and love in the form of a breakfast sandwich. I was stuffed!! Their Lox bagel is also pretty good. Pay with cash! They have a surcharge for credit cards which I found out after the fact on my receipt. There is only one guy working the register and making the bagels so sometimes you could be waiting for a bit to order and then waiting some more for your order. Don't be in a rush.
